Up to HUGE pipe organ bonfire?
August 2, 2008

Today I will be attending what I call a ‘Euro centric Church’. Most prefer to say ‘traditional’. If you know me well enough, you’ll know that I am not very fond of the formulaic culture of traditional churches. I am of the personal opinion for example that all (yes all!) pipe organs and hymn books should be tossed into a bonfire. Just my personal opinion.
I better express my peeve with traditional Christianity in this article here

Unlike you, I love pipe organs and hymns and sometimes I crave that sound at our church.
That said, sometimes at “traditional” churches, the organs are used for everysong instead of mixing it up by using multiple musical instruments. I think if a church mixed it up, some people might have a better view of such instruments. What do you think?
The largely despairing picture that I have alluded to on the use of hymns and pipe organs in modern Christendom might, to a certain degree, have gone too far.
I cede to you on the point that once in a while it is a pleasure to hear hymns even at churches with a contemporary format.
I am not too sure about pipe organs as yet, but I agree that a ‘mix’ would add much needed salt to any bland pot
I support a mix too -especially since one’s choice of music is largely a matter of personal taste. Aggressively homogeneous congregations, both liberal AND conservative, make me nervous. I think a diverse church helps folks to push past surface differences so we can all get a little closer to the core of what worship is (or should be) about.
Your blog is interesting!
Keep up the good work!
