Freedom Writers Diary
August 28, 2007
Each and every one of us has the potential for greatness. The book ‘Freedom Writers Diary’ solidifies
s that already proven, but hardly known fact. This thought-provoking narrative, penned by 150 teens and their teacher took me for a ride on one of the wildest emotional roller coasters ever.
While the intent was that the Freedom Writers would recount their own life stories, they ended up telling stories that eerily resonated with the life stories of many people I’ve come in contact with over my life time.
The book was also personal to me as I identified with some of the experiences of some of the freedom writers myself.
Below is one of the diary entries that stood out for me.
“…a truly self-reliant person takes action, leaving nothing to chance and everything to themselves …excuses will not bring about success and adversity is not something you walk with, but something you leap over. The only obstacles are the ones you allow. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. A truly self-reliant person finds his weak link and strenghtens it. I want to be a self-reliant person, now and forever.”
