I have always tried to keep an open mind in every situation. One of my uncles who is a Minister, frequently says “always look at the big picture”. As a man of faith, presumably this can be difficult at times right? I think not.

For me, my curiosity or want to find out the “why” or the “how” in matters of faith have actually brought me closer to God. When some Christian leaders said that the DaVinci Code was ‘off-limits’ to Christians, I rushed to the store to get the book (and subsequently the DVD); when a family member of mines converted to the Jehovah’s Witness faith, against the wishes of others, I visited a Kingdom Hall (Jehovah’s Witness Church) to get a better understanding of their faith.

More recently, I’ve started reading the book, “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne; which according to the introduction, after reading, I would have learnt ‘the secret’ on how I can have, be or do anything I want…to know who I am and the true magnificence that awaits me in my life.

I do not agree totally with the theology behind the ‘Law of Attraction’ as “introduced” in the book; I have however, found important life-lessons or parallels to that which is taught in Christianity. The power of choices, thought and faith are predominant themes (or insinuations).

I challenge you (and myself) to…
  1. Approach everything with an open mind.
  2. Wonder about God- It’s okay to challenge the established. Do not rely on everything you have been taught because ‘he or she said so’. Find out for yourself why…!
  3. Look at the bigger picture. Do not be so quick to sum up things/events in your life. Take a step back; take things apart and allow yourself to think before taking action.
Finally, and most importantly, use the filter of Faith (not Fate) in your journey. There are many scholars out there, but the most reliable scholarly writing is the Bible.
From my heart, to yours,
Akhenaton
