“I’m listening“………NOT!
Nothing annoys me more than when I am having a conversation with someone, my ears are in tune with every word that comes from their mouth and the moment I open my mouth, the conversation takes a downturn.
People not listening is perhaps one of my greatest pet peeves (albeit my good listening skills).
It’s hard to fathom why it is that so many people just want to talk, and talk, and talk save for little or no reciprocity in their day-to-day interaction with others.
Reciprocity is tantamount to healthy conversations and by extension, healthy relationships (platonic, romantic or business).
Unless each party’s opinion is valued, conversations are fruitless, leaving the second party feeling isolated, with a sense of rejection and in some cases, loss of self-worth.
So listen up people! The survival of your friendships/ relationships depends on it. Most importantly however, it’s the fair thing to do.

Indeed good communication is essential to any form of relationship. However, we are living in an individualistic society in which the most important person is “I”. People are not taught to think of other or to understand that “we are therefore I am”.. they are more in tune with “I think, therefore I am”. They have yet to understand that they a microcosm in a macrocosm. Making them understand their well being is tied to your well being is a foreign concept as they can just go and replace a toaster, relationship, or car when something is not working out for them. As a result, they are constantly looking for one another, bumping into one another, yet never seeing one another being so shut up in their cloaks. They usually tend to perish by their own venom they gathered over time and time of not understanding the need to be part of a whole. For African-Americans, it is mostly due to the lack of understanding their cultural heritage and suppressing the intrinsic or instinctive cultural unity that flows through the veins. The blood memories so to speak… what we refer to in animals as instinct which is actually generations of knowledge transferred through the DNA or the blood.
